Hi, my name is Moi. Music and especially percussion has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I still remember my mum shouting at me and collecting all the kitchenware I was using as drums when I was very little. I also remember how during my childhood, any object could be a potential drumming surface, and how that helped me develop my creativity and my imagination. Soon after I would join a music school and debut in a marching band, later joining a brass band. During these times, I discovered that drumming and music in general, helps you communicate with others and most importantly, feel connected to others without needing to use other communication styles, or even understanding their language; music is an universal communication channel. As soon as I found others with the same need to connect through music, we founded our first group band during my teenage, and how fantastic was to put a drum kit together!
I graduated in History at University, another of my passions, and became a History teacher after studying a Masters in Education and Educational Psychology (I have been awarded a full Qualified Teacher Status in UK). Soon after I arrived to the UK, I developed an interest in social care and started working as a support worker. Following that initial step, I have worked as a Behaviour Support Therapist, a Social Prescriber for a Specialised Autism Team within the NHS and a Disability Adviser at the University of Bath. Thanks to this journey, I have a lot of experience in working with neuro-diverse individuals and groups, working with them in the community, as well as in Higher Education and mental health settings. This experience has given me the opportunity to meet fantastic people who I learnt a lot from about communication and connectivity, which later on made me think about creating these workshops. In these sessions, I intend to bring my experience in Education, social care and group facilitation, and with a music oriented focus. The aim therefore is, to explore communication, creativity, connectivity and expression; hopefully providing a safe space where attendees can experiment, interact with others and have fun.
